Country: Italy Region: Piemonte Varietal: 100% Nebbiolo Vintage: 2019 Colour: Red Style: Dry Producer: Pio Cesare Description: The Pio Cesare winery was founded in 1881 by the great-grandfather Cesare Pio. He was one of the very first wine producers to believe in the great potential and quality of Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera and in the other great wines of Piemonte. Cesare Pio in the second portion of 1800s, was among the very first winemakers to produce these wines with a philosophy that was dedicated to the terroir and the strictest quality of the wine. For five generations, the Pio Cesare family has been producing traditional Piemontese wines in its ancient cellars, located in the centre of the town of Alba. Tasting Notes the blend is enriched by a small proportion of grapes  from the Barbaresco and Barolo region, which provide body, structure and a long ageing potential. Nebbiolo grapes for the Pio Cesare Nebbiolo Langhe DOC are hand-picked and gently pressed and fermented at 25 to 26°C. Vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, with skin contact for 12 days. The wine is then aged in medium-toasted French oak for 20 months: 20% in barriques, 80% in 20-50 hectolitre casks.
