Blackcurrant & CaramelHarvest: December 2020 Country: KenyaProducer: Kiangoi washing stationRegion: KirinyagaProcess: WashedVariety: SL 34 (90%), SL 28, K7 and Ruiru 11Altitude: 1,600 – 1,800 masl The Kiangoi washing station is one of three wet mills belonging to the Rungeto Cooperative Society in Kirinyaga, Central Kenya. The producers that belong to the Cooperative are located on the slopes of Mount Kenya. A region known for its intense, complex, and flavour dense coffees! It's an interesting time for Kenyan coffee! With climatic changes and the rising popularity of disease resistant varieties, there is a broader range of flavour profiles now than ever before. It's still possible to find those classic, jammy, blackcurrant cups, but flavours of plums, stone fruit, hoppy florals, and citrus fruits are becoming increasingly common. More recently, we've even come across more funky, process-driven profiles, from washed coffees going through extended fermentation. We were so impressed by the flavours and structure of this coffee, we’re trying something new this year! We have roasted this coffee two ways, and for the first time we'll be releasing it as both espresso and filter. These beans are roasted for espresso and you expect a jammy, intensly fruity cup with flavours of Blackcurrant, rhubarb and caramel.
