Eulalia Grass Red Chief
A beautiful grass grown as a specimen, Miscanthus sinensis Red Chief is a large, deciduous, clump-forming, warm-season, perennial grass with an erect, arching habit. Narrow, arching, mid-green, leaves turn yellow in autumn, fading to light-brown in winter. Feathery, plume-like flowers emerge deep maroon-red from July to autumn, slowly fading to creamy-silver, on stems held well above the clump of leaves; the plumes remain on the plant over winter. Eulalia grass Red Chief can also be grown as structural plants along a border, or in a prairie planting. Cut back the plumes and leaves to the base in late winter as they start to shatter in the wind.
