The reflective nature of my work is embodied within dream-like vistas of fine oil surfaces, where absolute realism melds into myth, gravity into weightlessness and earthly concerns into ethereality. Canvasses are smoothed with many layers of ground and surfaces are then sanded back before oil paint is applied, each stage aspiring toward a dreamlike realism. The combined approach of oil paint thinly veiling real issues releases a tension as each work is explored. Biography Myra Jago is a conceptual oil painter from Dublin, now living in Wicklow. She completed her BA (hons) 2005 and MFA (painting) 2011 at The National College of Art & Design. In 2017, she won Highly Commended at The National Gallery of Ireland Hennessy Portrait Prize. Her fourth exhibition, Now Islands, exhibited at The RHA Ashford Gallery in 2019. In 2020 she received a Professional Development Award from The Arts Council. Her work can be found in The State Art Collection, Deloitte, The Central Bank of Ireland, Green8 Japan, Kildare County Council and many public and private collections nationally and internationally.
