Agapanthus Dr Brouwer A spectacular-looking agapanthus or African lily, Agapanthus Dr Brouwer is a vigorous, semi-evergreen perennial with a clump-forming habit, hardier than many evergreen agapanthus. The strap-shaped leaves are deep green, forming a handsome clump. In July and August, dramatic heads of lilac-blue, tubular flowers rise on deep green stems above the foliage; the flowers have a violet-blue streak and are very attractive to pollinators. Although hardier than most, Agapanthus Dr Brouwer may need winter protection in cold areas; it can also be planted in containers and brought under cover in winter. It is good in coastal gardens, being tolerant of salt air, and is drought-tolerant once established.
