Eltahawy knows patriarchy well, and she is fed the hell up of it. Sexually assaulted during hajj at the age of fifteen, groped on the dance floor in Montreal at fifty, there have been countless other injustices in the years between. The Seven Necessary Sins for Women and Girls is her call to action. Women and girls have been and continue to be socialised to avoid anger, attention, profanity, ambition, power, violence and lust. Indeed when women display any of these are shot down as bitchy, pushy, and worse - yet so often these very characteristics  are what are seen to make men appear 'powerful'. Eltahawy brings us a collection of stories from activists and women around the world—from South Africa to China, Nigeria to India, Bosnia to Egypt— who are using their anger to take action, are crossing the lines of race, class, faith, and gender, where it has been so hard for women at these intersections to be heard, and harder to be listened to. Rather than preaching to women and girls to survive the poisonous, restrictive system they have found themselves in, Eltahawy says enough is enough, it is time to stand up to dismantle it. Love this? we have a whole range of books on society and culture here at designist. Who wrote it?Mona Eltahany How does it come?Hardback, 21.5 x 15.5 x 2 cm approx,144 pages.
