Country: New Zealand Region: Marlborough Varietal: Pinot Noir  Vintage: 2017 Colour: Red Style: Dry Producer: Felton Road  Description:   #12 Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines in the World 2018. View the List Felton Road farms four properties totaling 32 ha in the Bannockburn sub-region of Central Otago. This wine is a blend from three vineyards; Cornish Point, Calvert and The Elms. The estate follows a strict policy of 100% organic and biodynamic viticulture. This ensures that the fruit arrives to the winery as pure as it can be- they have a commitment to hands off winemaking. The unique gravity flow winery enabled the grapes to be gently destemmed directly into open-top fermenters without pumping with approximately 25 % as whole clusters. Traditional fermentation with a moderately long maceration on skins has extracted good colour and tannin with considerable depth of flavour. This wine was aged for 13 months in French oak barrels from artisan Burgundian coopers. n accordance with our non-interventionalist approach to winemaking, this wine was fermented with indigenous yeast and was not fined or filtered. "The aroma leads to a bright and lifted combination of red and dark fruits with considerable florals. On the palate, there is a combination of transparency, power and tension. The silky entry of spice andsavoury notes expand to pure, deep fruits, braced with acidity, but luscious throughout. The frame is a finely woven latticework: intricate and detailed with a strong sense of longevity. This exemplary wine is a blend of our four properties that elegantly expresses the graceful and more subtle side of Pinot Noir from Bannockburn.." (Winemakers Note, July 2018)"Elegant, fresh and vibrant, this red starts off wonderfully perfumed, with lavender, white pepper and green tea notes that accentuate the purity of the cherry and raspberry flavors. Polished tannins still provide some grip on the finish, where white truffle and forest floor details linger.
