Divided Loyalties tells of the experiences of a young Scottish woman living in occupied France during World War II.
Born in 1905 in Aberdeen, Janet Grierson married French engineer and physicist, François Teissier du Cros, in 1930 and went to live near his family in the Cevennes, southern France.
During the War, Janet lived in a small rural cottage with her young children. Her husband was away much of the time and she struggled at times to get enough food for her family.
The resistance was active in the Cevennes and Janet was estranged from her in-laws because of disagreements about their support for the collaborationist Marshal Pétain.
“One of the vividest pictures of everyday life during the Occupation years that I remember ... An extraordinarily intelligent and attractive book.” - The Guardian
Published by Hamish Hamilton (1962).
There are small tears on the dust jacket, otherwise the book is in good condition. Binding intact.
