The Anglo-Saxon Review, which ran from June 1899 to September 1901, was edited by Lady Randolph Churchill (1854 – 1921), American-born British socialite and mother of Winston Churchill. Among the pieces in the first volume were Selections from the Letters of Georgiana, Duchess of Devonshire. Georgiana Spencer (1757 –1806) was related to the Churchill family and a distant great aunt of Diana, Princess of Wales, to whom she has often been compared. The Centenary of the Battle of the Nile is a poem by Algernon Charles Swinburne (1837 – 1909) and American author, Henry James (1843 – 1916) contributes a short story, The Great Condition, about two men who fall in love with the same woman during a transatlantic journey. Published by John Lane in 1899. Tissue-guarded frontisplate of Queen Victoria. Six other illustrations, all tissue guarded.  Front joint is cracked, but not detached. Otherwise, the book is in good condition.
