€5.00
Quay Books
Published in 1946, A Book of Recent Exploration offers the armchair explorer a survey of 20th Century travel in uninhabited and hostile regions.
The Far East features in many of the profiles; Papua New Guinea, Tibet and the Himalayas. There is an account of the journeys through Central Asia of Eric Teichman (1884 – 1944), a British diplomat and ‘explorer-cum-special agent’.
Several chapters look at the Arctic and Antarctic regions, including Greenland’s highest mountain, a 1930’s Soviet expedition to the North Pole and the British expedition to Graham Land, Antarctica in the 1920’s.
The book includes illustrations and maps.
