Roger Keyes (1872 – 1945) was a British naval officer, promoted to Admiral of the Fleet in 1930. Born and brought up in India, he joined the Royal Navy as a cadet at the age of 12. As a junior officer he served in a corvette operating from Zanzibar on slavery suppression missions. During the First World War, Keyes took part in the first Battle of Heligoland Bight (1914) and was heavily involved in the organisation of the Dardanelles Campaign.  After the war he was elected Conservative Member of Parliament for Portsmouth North in January 1934. He was opposed to the Munich Agreement in 1938 and was one of the few who stood with Winston Churchill on this issue. The author of this biography, Cecil Aspinall-Oglander (1878 – 1959), was a British military historian, noted for his works on the First World War. Published by Hogarth Press in 1951.
