The Young Captain is an adventure story for children, taken from the longer volume With Clive in India (1884).
It follows the adventures of young Charlie Marryat, who has joined the East India Company as a clerk. He and his friend join with Robert Clive (1725 – 1774) as he leads the fight against the French in order to protect British interests in India.
George Alfred Henty (1832 - 1902) was an English novelist, best known for his historical adventure stories for young people. He wrote approximately 144 books, in addition to stories for magazines, and was known as "The Prince of Story-Tellers".
