€20.00

Quay Books
‘Pop Art’ represented a sudden and dramatic expansion of often-contradictory possibilities when it first appeared in the 1950s, and its influence remains vital in contemporary art to this day.
This book celebrates the fiftieth anniversary of Richard Hamilton’s famous letter in 1957, outlining his definition of what 'Pop Art Is'.
Marcus presents the works of more than forty artists from the first generation of Pop artists, including Jasper Johns, and Andy Warhol as well as later artists, such as Jeff Koons and Damien Hirst, who have contributed to the development and dissemination of Pop Art.
The text is by Greil Marcus, Louise Lawler contributes a photographic essay and Dan Graham provides an interview with Robert Venturi and Denise Scott Brown.
Pop Art Is illuminates the powerful, international impact of Pop Art throughout the second half of the 20th century.
Greil Marcus, born 1945, is an American author, music journalist and cultural critic.
Published by Gagosian Gallery in 2008.
