Francisco Goya (1746 – 1828) was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker. One of the great portraitists of his time, he was also a commentator and chronicler of his era. Goya was immensely successful in his lifetime and is often referred to as both the last of the Old Masters and the first of the moderns.
Goya; A Biography is one of a series of profiles of artists written by American writer and illustrator, Elisabeth Ripley (1906 – 1969). They were aimed at young people, aged 12 and up, and served as introductions to famous painters and sculptors.
This volume focuses on Goya’s role as a court painter and on his opposition to war, as illustrated by his etchings and drawings.
Published by Oxford University Press in New York in 1956.
Good condition. Binding intact. The front right end section of the dust jacket has a tear.
