This landlocked county borders with five others, all of which are in Leinster. Although small, Carlow plays a big part in Ireland’s ancient history. Dating back to 3000BC, the Brownshill Dolmen is one of Carlow's most historically prominent sites. The megalithic portal tomb was said to be used for religious rites and sacrifices for over four and a half thousands years. The granite capstone of the dolmen is said to be the heaviest in Europe, weighing in at over one hundred tonnes. This flag captures a stylised nod to that portal tomb.
