MonaghanCounty Monaghan, in Ulster, shares its southern border with Leinster. It’s Ireland's fifth smallest county and fittingly has the fifth smallest population. The name Monaghan or ‘Muineachán’, originates from the word ‘muine’ meaning brake or hillock. This is in reference to the county's many drumlin areas. In fact, drumlins are said to cover over half of Monaghan’s landmass. These days, Monaghan County Council refers to itself as ‘the land of the little hills’, and promotes this bumpy terrain for adventure and nature tourism. This ‘M’ flag captures those rolling hills.
