Quay Books
Miss Hannah Mole is a Mary Poppins character with a dark secret lurking in her past. Aged 40, a thin and shabby spinster, she returns to her home town to take up a position as housekeeper/ governess with a clergyman and his family.
With intelligence, imagination and wit, she transforms the life of the household, winning the affection of the Vicar’s two daughters. Their father is more ambivalent, and is inclined to see Miss Mole as a subversive element in the household.
Emily Hilda Young (1880-1949) was an English novelist, children's writer and supporter of the women's suffrage movement. In the 1980, a four-part series based on her novels – mainly Miss Mole – was shown on BBC television as ‘Hannah’.
Published by Jonathan Cape in 1931. Collected Edition. 352 pages. No dust jacket. Blue cloth. Foxing to endpapers. Pen inscription to front cover. Edge of cover boards is slightly stained. Top of cover of spine is a little torn. Binding intact.
