These unique artworks aim to present and promote the Irish language through using proverbs to look at our contemporary times, a reflection on the past year, a look to the future and to celebrate the resilience and community spirit of the Irish people at the time of our national holiday celebrations.
Irish Proverb: An donas amach is an sonas isteach This is particularly apt following what was a tough year and basically means out with the badness and in with the goodness.
Commissioned by St. Patrick's Festival in partnership with Hen's Teeth.
Supported by the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media under the 20 Year Strategy for the Irish Language 2010 – 2030.
About the artistNiall Sweeney works internationally in art, design, print, theatre, film, performance, installation, nightclubbing, music, publishing and writing. He is one half of the London-based creative studio Pony Ltd, along with electronic musician and designer Nigel Truswell. Their work has been published, exhibited, performed, collected, screened and danced upon around the world.
Made In Dublin, a nine-screen ciné-myriorama and collaboration with Eamonn Doyle, David Donohoe and Kevin Barry, has exhibited in Dublin, London, Madrid, Gijón, Antwerp and Barcelona. The four have recently collaborated again on a new short film, EX, which is being screened as part of the St Patrick's Festival 2021 programme.
