About the ArtistPeter Smyth is a Painter and Digital Artist based in County Kildare. His work explores themes such as mediation and compumorphic art. His process is often inspired by scientific research and is approached through a transdisciplinary lens.
His piece here is titled 'Phyllo'. Phyllo refers to phyllotaxis which roughly relates to the arrangements of leaves and stems on an axis. This piece explores the relationship between leaf evolution and technology and the wider correlation to other systems. Algorithms can be employed to understand how leaves develop to absorb optimal light to thrive. The process undertaken for this piece combines leaf models and computer rendering, not only to convey the harmonious nature of the two but to coincide with our transition into spring ourselves. Our evolution in developing new optimal conditions in which we may thrive, or reach a collective awakening in these trying and divisive times.
