Quay Books
During the First World War, a young boy is sent down from the high country in New Zealand to board with a schoolmaster's family near Christchurch. He becomes a reluctant participant in the tangled lives of the three daughters of the house, Rose, Muriel, and Hilda. With its portrayal a young boy’s bewilderment in the midst of adult complexities, The Young have Secrets was Courage’s most successful novel.
