Andrew M. Greeley (February 5, 1928 – May 29, 2013) was an American Catholic priest, sociologist, journalist and popular novelist. As a sociologist, he published a large number of influential academic works during the 1960s and 1970s.
The Hesitant Pilgrim is a comprehensive analysis of American Catholicism of the 1960’s, after the Second Vatican Council. Blending realism with optimism, Fr. Greeley examines the structures, spirit and nature of the Church, looking at issues such as freedom versus authority, Catholic education, and the conflict between the liberal and traditional wings of the Church.
