The Small Woman is the true story of Gladys Aylward, whose life story was told in the 1958 film ‘The Inn of the Sixth Happiness’, starring Ingrid Bergman.  Gladys was working as a housemaid when she attended a revival meeting. She was so moved by the preacher’s call to dedicate one's life to God that she decided to go to China as a missionary. It wasn’t easy for her to get to China; she was poor and uneducated, but she was very determined. Aged 30, Gladys set off on the perilous trip across Siberia and Japan to China. For a time she served as an assistant to the Government as a ‘foot inspector’, touring the countryside to enforce the new law against the cruel practice of binding young girls’ feet. ‘The Small Woman’ became a revered figure among the people of China, taking in orphans and adopting several herself, she risked her life many times to help those in need. In 1938 she led more than 100 orphans to safety over the mountains to escape invading Japanese forces. “These are my people; God has given them to me, and I will live or die with them for Him and His Glory.” – Gladys Aylward Published by the Reprint Society in 1959. Book is in good condition. Binding intact.  Dust jacket has tears.
