Weeping Rosebud Cherry A long-cultivated ornamental cherry from Japan, Prunus pendula Pendula Rubra is a small, even very small, slow-growing, deciduous tree with a spreading, then weeping habit, grown for its lovely spring blossom and good autumn colour. The long oval, pointed, green leaves with serrated edges turn lovely shades of orange and red in autumn. In early to mid spring, masses of small, pale pink to carmine single flowers emerge from deep carmine buds; because the flowers are single they are good for pollinators. Weeping rosebud cherry makes a beautiful specimen tree for even the smallest garden, and can even be grown in large containers. Lovely underplanted with blue spring bulbs.
