Sir Ludar is a thrilling historical adventure story for boys, set in Elizabethan England in the late sixteenth century. Humphrey Dexter is working as a printer’s apprentice in London when he gets involved with the young Irish rebel, Ludar McDonnell. Young Sir Ludar and his family are based on the McDonnells of Antrim, a Scottish/Irish clan who were rivals, and sometime allies, of the O’Neills during a turbulent period of Irish history. Talbot Baines Reed (1852 – 1893) was an English writer of boys' fiction and a regular contributor to The Boy's Own Paper. His wife, Elizabeth Greer, was from Northern Ireland, and the family often spent holidays in Donegal. Published by The Boy's Own Paper in 1920. Good condition. Binding intact
