Poolbeg Chimneys, Dublin 4 The Poolbeg Chimneys have been part of the Dublin skyline since 1969, known locally as the ‘Pigeon House’. The chimneys were decommissioned in 2010. It’s distinctive red and white chimneys, stand at over 207 metres. The ESB wanted to demolish this Dublin gem in 2014, as it was apparently taking too many resources to maintain. But after a public outcry the decision was reversed, and so the chimneys will go on to stay as an iconic feature of the Dublin skyline.
