Quay Books
This volume contains 6 plays written by Leo Tolstoy: The Power of Darkness (1886), The First Distiller (1886), Fruits of Enlightenment (1889), The Live Corpse, The Cause of it All and The Light Shines in Darkness. The final 3 plays were not published until after Tolstoy’s death in 1910.
The Power of Darkness was initially banned in Russia. It proved highly successful when it finally was performed, as was the comedy, Enlightenment. In The Light Shines in Darkness, which was left in an unfinished state, Tolstoy presents his own case, and deals with the contradiction that existed between practice and theory in his own life and teaching.
A clean copy in good condition.
