Grattan Bridge Lamp, Dublin This is the third in my lamp series. This is such a stunning lamp, with such ornate details.  The first bridge here was the Essex Bridge built in 1676 by developer Humphrey Jervis. It was Dublin’s third bridge at the time. The Essex bridge was in need of constant repair, as the foundations were built directly on the riverbed. George Semple, architect and engineer, advised on the need for a new bridge, and that was opened in 1755. The bridge underwent it’s next iteration under Bindon Stoney, the port engineer and opened in 1874. Stoney retained some of Semple’s foundations, cleverly increased the bridge width by cantilevering footpaths on either side and embellished them with wrought iron parapets, crowned with decorative lamps. There are six cast-iron parapet standards. They are adorned with rampant seahorses and a flourish of foliage and geometric motifs, including acanthus, volutes, linear mouldings.  It was renamed for parliamentarian Henry Grattan.  A3 print - 420mm (H) x 297mm (W) A4 print - 297mm (H) x 210mm (W)A5 print - 210mm (H) x 148mm (W) Unframed vertical print matt card.
