The Prophet is the tale of the strange destiny of the Reverend Constant Gath and the mysterious 'Lady in White'.
Perley Poore Sheehan (1875 - 1943) was an American writer who specialized in sensational romances and detective fiction. He contributed many stories to the pulp magazines of the 1920s. He also wrote novels and screenplays, including the screenplay for the classic 1923 Hunchback of Notre Dame starring Lon Chaney.
“Perley Poore Sheehan wrote in an era of the great scientific romancers - Edgar Rice Burroughs, George Allan England, A. Merritt, Francis Stevens - and his work compares favourably with the best of them.” – Sam Moscowitz .
This is a scarce item and is difficult to find online.
The book is in fair condition. The red boards have faded stains and the cloth is somewhat coming away from the top half of the spine, but the title and author are fully legible. Some discolourations on the title page and on the endpapers. Binding is intact, except for the cover boards which are becoming just a little loose.
Published by T Fisher Unwin in 1913. First edition
