Great Fights in Literature was number 132 in ‘The Kings Treasuries of Literature’ series, published by J. M. Dent between 1920 and 1959. The series was edited by Sir Arthur Quiller-Couch and was intended for use in schools. ‘The Kings Treasuries of Literature’ included books of poetry, plays by Shakespeare and classic novels by authors such as Charles Dickens and Robert Louis Stephenson as well as compilations such as Great Fights in Literature.
The fights contained are grouped as outstandingly heroic struggles: (i) single combat, (ii) general battle, and (iii) encounters in or with the animal-world. Includes a selection of extracts from the works of Byron, Tennyson, Bunyan, Kingsley, Scott etc. The poem The Battle of Limerick by Thackeray is included.
