Tove Jansson: The Moomins and the Great Flood
€15.00
Tales for Tadpoles
The first ever Moomin book, originally published in Finland in 1945, The Moomins and the Great Flood tells the story of Moomintroll, Moominmamma and Sniff's search through the forest for long lost Moominpappa. Tove Jansson started this story in the winter of war, 1939, and it lay forgotten until a friend suggested she finish it as an illustrated children's story. Jansson wanted to write a fairytale to escape into, and the result is a charming tale with a happy ending, but with a strong underlying moral outlook. Featuring beautiful sepia watercolour illustrations, as well as the pen and ink drawings that would become her trademark.
Learn about the journey of how Moomins came into being, from private jokes within Tove Jansson's family to a need to escape the realities of war, here.
