The bright flecks of Donegal tweed, dyed and spun in West Donegal are a natural remedy too. Each wrap consists of 60,000 stitches all hand-loomed here at our home studio. The yarn is a soft tweed pure merino wool 100%, renounce for its thermal qualities. Each piece is cast on and cast off by hand with a double thickness of yarn, and after the knitting is given a light washing to increase the softness and drape. Hand-loomed means a hand-operated knitting machine is used, no electricity needed! Each stitch is cast on individually, each line or row is made by moving a knitting ‘carriage’ across a bed of needles. The eyes and hands work together skillfully, with not a power cable in sight! It is very enjoyable work.
