Each wrap consists of 60,000 stitches all hand crafted and finished here at our Donegal home studio. A very multi functional piece with fabulous drape. The yarn is a soft tweed pure merino wool 100%, renoun for its thermal warmth and easy care. Each piece is cast on and cast off by hand with a double thickness of yarn, and after the knitting is given a light washing and steam finish to settle the softness and drape. Hand-loomed means a hand-operated knitting machine is used, no electricity needed! Each stitch is cast on individually, each line or row is made by moving a knitting ‘carriage’ across a bed of needles. The eyes and hands work together skillfully, with not a power cable in sight! In fact power loom companies are not crazy about making big scarves as the length takes up a lot of factor hours.
