For several generations,Bodegas Castaño has been a pioneer in this region and has cometo symbolise the best of what southern Spain has to offer: rich,warm climate wines made from grapes grown at altitude, resultingin wines of great character and finesse.VINEYARDSThe grapes are grown on organic plots at 750 metres above sealevel, a perfect area for organic production. Dry, sunny weatherand specific soil conditions here give little chance for mould orpests to thrive, allowing a pesticide-free and agrochemical-freecrop every year. The average age of bush vines are over 25 yearsold which are planted at a density of 1,600 vines per hectare.VINIFICATIONThe grapes were crushed very lightly before being fermented andmacerated on their skins for 10 days at a controlled temperatureof 28ºC in stainless-steel tanks. After fermentation, the wineremained in stainless-steel tanks until bottling. The gentle handlingpreserved the natural fruit purity and freshness of the Monastrell.TASTING NOTESThis wine is deep ruby red in colour. On the nose, there are richnotes of black cherries, plums and an elegant mineral touch. Onthe palate, this Monastrell is smooth with velvety tannins and along finish, bursting with fruit.
