Country: France  Region: Cahors Varietal: Malbec Vintage: 2016 Colour: Red Style: Dry Producer: Chateau de Mercues  Description: The spectacular hilltop castle of Mercuès, now a hotel, forms the backdrop to this wine's vineyards. The wine is powerful and dense, packed with tannins that are slowly melding with the black-plum fruits. Its structure will allow this wine to age well. Drink from 2022. Roger Voss, Wine Critic Château de Mercuès Malbec wines are noble. Georges Vigouroux renovated the château to restore it to its former glory and to qualify it for the Relais & Château network. After the first harvest in 1987, Château de Mercuès became one of few ‘Cru hotels’ where guests can take part fully in the harvest and vinification process. For four generations, wine has been flowing through the Vigouroux family’s veins. Owners of 147 hectares of vineyards in the Southwest France, the Vigouroux family are the specialists in France when it comes to producing and offering various styles of wines, from the plateau to the different terraces. Tasting Note: An extremely well made wine: rich, intense, and subtle, with a great combination of fruit and spice. Very dark red with purplish-red nuances and a nose of red fruit, spice, and vanilla. Very rich on the palate with hints of candied morello cherry and sweet spice underpinned by powerful tannin and elegant, understated oak.  Food Matches: Turkey, Beef, Lamb, Duck
