""When I was at Hardy's, the fruit we got off this vineyard was superb, so I jumped at the opportunity of buying it when it came up,"" he explains. First planted in the late 1800s by the Hardy family, the vines are now 70 years old. It is from the Blewitt Springs sub-region, so the extra sand in the soil gives the wines an aromatic lift that sets it apart from the crowd. This is the first vintage of Koomilya, which we are convinced will quickly become one of Australia's most sought after wines. Open top fermentation and long maceration gives a wine with finely woven yet tightly knit tannins that carry the intense fruit through the palate, giving superb length. The wine is seamless, and becomes more impressive the further you get into the bottle, with the last drop leaving you wanting more." It is in theBlewitt Springs sub-region, with more sand in the soil than other McLaren Vale sites, which gives the wine an aromatic lift and sets it apart from the crowd. 2013 is the first vintage of Koomilya, which we are convinced will quickly become one of Australia’s most sought after wines." Vinification: The Shiraz fruit had a long maceration period and underwent open top fermentation. It was then transferred to a four year old 2,700 litre French oak vat and a three year old French puncheon to age for 16 months with no racking. Tasting Notes: Elegant and powerful, the Koomilya is an intense, deep garnet colour with pomegranate, black fruit and herbal notes. Spice flavours from the oak barrels are integrated with finely woven yet tightly knit tannins that carry the intense fruit through the palate, giving superb length. The wine is seamless, and becomes more impressive the further you get into the bottle, with the last drop leaving you wanting more. Closure: Stelvin  ABV:14%  Acidity [g/l]: 5.5
