Country: Argentina Region: Lujan de Cuyo Varietal: Malbec Vintage: 2016 Colour: Red Style: Dry Producer: Vina Cobas Description: Viña Cobos is the inspired vision of Paul Hobbs, a pioneer who took on the challenge of crafting world-class wines on a level never before achieved in Argentina.Over the past twenty years, Hobbs and his team at Viña Cobos have dedicated themselves to seek out, study, and develop vineyard sites in the two premier growing regions of Mendoza: Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco. Through meticulous vineyard management and minimal intervention in the winemaking process, the wines express the true essence of their terroir with finesse, complexity, and authenticity. Since the first vintage release in 1999, Viña Cobos has pushed the boundaries of quality for malbec and for Argentina, striving to continuously set the standard for excellence in the region. This is really complex and balanced with lots of chocolate, walnut and currant character. Full to medium body. Wonderful energy and complexity. Drink or hold.-James Suckling, Jun 2017 Reviewed by: Wine Spectator- 93 pts Healthy bright ruby. Even darker on the nose than the Uco Valley Malbec, offering scents of blueberry, licorice and violet accented by white pepper, tobacco and spices. Distinctly savory in the mouth but a bit of aeration brings lovely sweetness and generosity of texture. Quite deep but still primary and youthful. Finishes with sneaky building length. This is a bit fresher and more vertical than the Valle de Uco Malbec, which is sweeter and broader, with more velvety tannins. Vignoni told me that the crop level here was about five tons per hectare, including some century-old vines, and that he generally likes these wines best about seven or eight years after the vintage.-Stephen Tanzer, Apr 2018Reviewed by: Vinous- 92 pts Tasting Note:  Deep red with violet hues. It has an intense spicy aroma of pepper, cloves, cinnamon and other spices, combined with ripe black fruits and hints of roses. The palate is smooth with firm and chewy tannins." (Concentrated, Plum, Chocolate, Full-bodied) Food Matches: Red Meat / Lamb / Chicken / Venison
