Country: France Region: Bordeaux  Varietal: 70% Sauvignon Blanc/ 30% Semillon Vintage: 2021 Colour: White Style: Dry Producer: Chateau Bauduc Description: Owner operators and English ex-pats Gavin and Angela Quinney fell for the lovely Château Bauduc, some 15 miles from the city of Bordeaux, in 1999. The house and the winery are surrounded by 25 hectares of pretty vineyards, where they grow Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon for their white wines, along with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc for the reds and rosé. Some of their older vines date from 1947 and the family have replanted or planted 15 or so hectares more since 2000. Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon are the two classic white grapes of Bordeaux. This blend of 70% Sauvignon and 30% Sémillon is from young vines at the château that are still in training for our ’Grands Vins’. This is from the 2016 vintage, and it’s drinking very well now. Oz Clarke is a huge fan, stating, “Bordeaux needs another 100 Bauducs — and fast.”It is also listed at Maze Grill, The Savoy and Petrus, all top London Restaurants.  Tasting Note: “A smoky peachy honeyed nose then crispy apples and citrus on the palate, the finish leaves me with citrus freshness but an undertone of that smoky honey. Did I mention it is the most lovely bright straw gold in the glass? All that fruit, weight, interest and texture for under €20.00..... wow! Brilliant Food Matches: Oysters / Shellfish / Chicken / Aperitif/ Salads
