Apple Worcester Pearmain This old favourite was bred in Worcestershire at the end of the 19th century, and is thought to be a seedling of Apple Devonshire Quarrenden. An early to mid-season dessert apple, Apple Worcester Pearmain bears very attractive apples, round and slightly lop-sided, yellowish green almost completely covered with a vivid red flush. The flesh is firm, white and juicy, aromatic and sweet, and in a good year has a distinct strawberry flavour if allowed to ripen fully on the tree. The tree is relatively compact, hardy and reliable, but can be slow to come into bearing. Partial tip-bearer. A good choice for cold areas as the blossom withstands frost, but not in wet areas, as it is prone to scab and canker. Holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
