Tree Mallow Burgundy Wine A sister-cultivar to the popular cottage-garden shrub, Lavatera Barnsley, Lavatera x clementii Burgundy Wine is slightly smaller, and is cherry-pink rather than burgundy. It’s a vigorous, rather short-lived, small, semi-evergreen shrub with a bushy habit, ideal for the front or middle of a border. The three-lobed leaves are soft grey-green. The saucer-like, mallow-like flowers are deep, cerise pink with darker veins, borne for months in summer, especially if dead-headed. Tree mallow Burgundy Wine prefers lighter soils but repays good feeding. A very easy plant, it holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit, and is very attractive to bees and butterflies.
