Giant Blue Hosta One of the finest of all hostas, and one of the largest, Hosta sieboldiana var. Elegans, is a clump-forming, herbaceous perennial grown for its magnificent, heavily puckered, silvery blue-grey leaves, up to 12”/30cm long. The leaves colour well in autumn, turning rich shades of amber. In June and July, the flowers rise in dense racemes on 30”/75cm stems, bell-shaped and white, tinged with lilac. Hostas must have cool, deep, rich, reliably moist, acid to neutral soil to thrive, and also protection from slugs, which will shred their beautiful leaves if given half a chance. The giant blue hosta holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
