Lesser Periwinkle Gertrude Jekyll
A really charming ground-cover plant, named after a famous garden-designer and plantswoman, Vinca minor f. alba Gertrude Jekyll is a low-growing, mat-forming, evergreen perennial, rooting as it goes. Small, pointed, glossy, dark green leaves are wonderfully set off by very pretty, pure white, five-petalled flowers. These appear between mid-spring and autumn, even in deep shade, but will be far more abundant in full sun. Lesser periwinkle Gertrude Jekyll can also be grown in borders, under shrubs and hedges, and in containers. It can be invasive, but is quite easily kept in check.
