Avens Mrs J Bradshaw
An old, tried-and-tested avens cultivar which has become very fashionable, Geum Mrs J. Bradshaw is a clump-forming, herbaceous perennial which forms a neat, dense mound of mid- to deep green, rounded, rather hairy leaves. The flowers are borne from late May to September on tall, slender, purple stems, and are bright scarlet-red, semi-double with golden stamens; they move in the breeze and are very attractive to bees. The mobile dots of scarlet flowers look wonderful with low grasses in a naturalistic planting, and are also good in rock or gravel gardens, borders, and even in pots. Cut back flowers as they fade to encourage more flowers, and divide every 2-3 years to keep the plant neat and floriferous. Avens Mrs J Bradshaw holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
