As a child he learned the basics from his father, and became fascinated with the idea of conserving memories. Following themes of nostalgia and storytelling, Zak’s recent personal work documents the vibrant colours and textures of his local landscape. In a workflow which takes cues from early to modern innovations in photography, Zak’s process  is spontaneous yet highly controlled. The locations are frequently visited and photographs are scheduled for when the lighting is optimal. Colour and tone of the images are composed to evoke a painterly feeling, inspired by the fairytale like nature of the terrain.
